Mathematics is about problem solving, logic and space. Students are offered opportunities to improve their basic numeracy skills and also appreciate the abstract, creative and aesthetic science of Mathematics.

The aims of the Mathematics Faculty are;

To stimulate and foster an interest in and an enjoyment of Mathematics

Staff and Students will be inspired, challenged and motivated to want to excel in Mathematics

To develop confidence and practical skills in the use of Mathematics

Students will become numerate; equipped with the mathematical knowledge, skills and understanding to deal with any Mathematics they are likely to encounter in their adult lives.

Students will learn to use the logical and analytical abilities gained from the study of Mathematics in order to approach problem-solving tasks with confidence.

In year 7 students are taught in mixed ability groups and study levels 3- 6 of the National Curriculum.

In year 8 students are taught in sets and study levels 3-7 of the National Curriculum and students who are achieving levels 6 and 7 are entered for the UKMT junior.

In year 9 students are taught in sets and study levels 3-8 of the National Curriculum.

In KS4 students study AQA GCSE Modular Mathematics B with some students also studying AQA GCSE Statistics. The Modular examinations assess students ability in Using and Applying Mathematics, Data Handling, Number, Algebra and Shape Space and Measure.

The Key to success in Mathematics is confidence, this can be achieved by a positive attitude to learning.
