Dear Parent(s)/Carer(s)
We have reached that exciting time of the year where we make preparations for the next group of students to join our school from Year 6. In order for us to be able to give some quality time to these “new students in their big school”, we would like to provide tutors with the opportunity to meet them at the start of the day for small group work. As a result, we will be repeating the pattern from previous years where we ask our current, established students to arrive a little later on this day.
Please make arrangements for your son/daughter to arrive at school on Thursday 8 July 2010 at 9.30 am and go straight to his/her tutor base. Tutors will then introduce current members of the tutor group to the new tutees in the group and will undertake some “getting to know you” activities. Students will return to normal lessons at 10.00 am (Period 2).
I know you will understand our rationale at this very important time for our new students and ask that you discuss feelings and anxieties which new students may have regarding “big school” with your child. By discussing this, he/she may be able to identify students who need a little “TLC” from an older, wiser student and be able to offer that support.
Thank you for your support in this matter.
Yours sincerely
Rachel Smith

Nunthorpe School is already well on the way to achieving the Department for Education Leading Parent Partnerships Award (LPPA). All our new Year 6 parents are welcome to join our Parent Steering and Parent Voice Groups to help us continue to improve our school over the coming years. Interested parents should contact Dr Hughes or Mrs Deen for more information.
