AS Physics students are runners up in the National Nuclear New Build 2010 competition.

On the 3rd March 2010, Nunthorpe students attended the National Nuclear New Build 2010 Competition. The event (the Nuclear Institute Nuclear New Build Conference) was held at QEII Conference Centre in Westminster, London.

Initially a group of Nunthorpe Students had to research nuclear power production and put together a two minute DVD outlining their views on building new nuclear power stations. They presented their views in the form of a breakfast news style article. Once this had been submitted the team was contacted and was told that they had been chosen as one of the four finalists and were asked to send two representatives to attend the finals in London. Two AS Physics Students – Tom Averell and Josh Gladwin – attended along with Fiona Robinson, Director of Physics.

At the event, the four final DVDs were shown and the conference delegates voted for their favorites.

Nunthorpe received the runners up prize of £250 and then had a chance to attend the rest of the conference.

HRH Prince Andrew was also in attendance and Tom and Josh had chance to talk to many of the delegates including the chair of the Nuclear Institute Rear Admiral Paul Thomas CB.

The competition team consisted of: Tom Averell, Michael Blakey, Chris Briggs, Josh Gladwin, Adam Kent, Jenny McDonald, Gareth Mann, George Newman, Alex Smithson and Sam Williams

This is a fantastic achievement – well done to all those involved!

    Nunthorpe’s Virtual Learning Environment (VLE)

I am writing to you to give you more information on Nunthorpe’s Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), Moodle. I am sure many of you have seen your child accessing work through Moodle at home and also want to know more about what it is and how it can be used.

Moodle is primarily a Learning platform on our school website, which is an online area where students can access work, extend their learning and take part in a wide range of learning activities. All students have a unique login to Moodle which allows them to access the different courses created by their teachers. Within these courses they will find their homework and links to lesson resources and other websites. By accessing Moodle with your child you will be able to find out what he/she is doing in certain lessons and also be able to help keep track of any homework.
