Dear Parent(s)/Carer(s)

As I know all families are aware of our extremely high standards and expectations pertaining to uniform I firstly wanted to thank the vast majority of students and their families for adhering to the school uniform policy. We have had a number of comments and compliments regarding the standards of dress of our students, and in particular with respect to their business like personal presentation.

However, I am aware that it has been a number of months since we revisited the uniform policy in letter form with families, therefore, I would like to raise the issue of uniform and acceptable accessories at school.

  1. Jewellery – in order to maintain safety in school and to reduce the risk of loss or theft of important jewellery pieces we would like to remind you of what is acceptable in the uniform policy. All students are allowed to wear a watch and one pair of SIMPLE stud earrings. We have noticed a number of diamante and designer earrings appearing in school, these must not be worn. When these are seen they will be confiscated and parents/carers will have to come and collect them from student reception. This can be extremely inconvenient for families therefore we would ask that you encourage the correct jewellery to be worn. May we also remind families that facial piercings are not allowed of any kind.
  2. Charm bracelets – although this is obviously jewellery they do deserve a separate point within this letter. We are noticing an increasing number of “Chamilia” and “Pandora” bracelets in school. These are extremely expensive and completely inappropriate for school use therefore we ask that these are most definitely not worn or brought to school. Collection of these items will be expected as above.
  3. Hair colour – previously we have had a number of students who choose to express their individuality through extreme hair colour choices. We would ask that families refrain from allowing their children from choosing extreme hair colours such as blue, green, pink, orange, red and where dying is chosen that it be a more conventional colour. Makeup – In short, girls are not permitted to wear nail varnish and we are starting to see a small number of girls persistently breaking this rule. In the main, facial makeup is used well by the girls in the school and in the majority of cases it is “subtle” and “appropriate for day wear” as per the uniform policy. A small number of girls are still being rather too dark and heavy with the application of makeup. Please do discuss this with your daughter where appropriate.
  4. Skirts – we have 2 styles of skirt within the school uniform. Please ensure that your daughter(s) selects only skirts which are acceptable within the uniform policy. We have had a number of girls buying any style of pleated skirt and claiming not to know it is not ‘uniform’. The correct style is named on the uniform list and Ross’ can help by showing families the correct styles. Alternatively we have one on a model in reception. Please ensure you daughter(s) do wear only one of the 2 agreed skirt styles. Additionally we have had problems with some of the girls rolling skirts up to a completely inappropriate length. Please discuss this with your daughter where relevant.

May we thank you for your ongoing support; our students are a credit to themselves and their families when they adhere to the uniform policy.

Yours sincerely
