On Wednseday 14th July, 6 students along with members of staff from Nunthorpe School will depart from Middlesbrough on an epic journey of a life time. Their final destination is thousands of miles away in Uganda with the aim of developing the English, Sport and IT cirriculum at Ndekye School along with a celebration of the opening of a community internet cafe that they have helped to fund.

What a journey we have all made to even get to here! Jake Anderson (lead student) and Madame Hellaoui travelled to Uganda last year with ODEF to scope out the school trip for this year and over the last two years, enormous amounts of time, work and effort have been put in to ensure we have all the funds and resources to travel, aswell as raising an extra £4900 to fund the internet cafe, as we enter a different culture, different landscape and meet different people. We have a wonderful trip planned with many exciting places to go and people to meet. This includes visiting projects such as AOET (http://www.aoet.org) and Uganda Hands for Hope (http://www.onlinehope.org), meeting Mr Norman, the District Education Officer but also visiting the local community of Bushenyi and Ndekye School, teaching students about life in the UK.

We have a positive outlook for our visit and have plans to make a lasting difference. It is a chance to see the positive impact we can make to the children of Ndekye, Uganda and we hope it will be a life changing experience. We will be posting updates where possible during the Uganda 2010 trip. For all the news, please visit the trip updates page on www.essanyu.co.uk.tt

I know how hard you have worked over the last few years to make this trip happen and it is so sad that you have not been able to travel. But as you and the group know your safety is paramount.
I know that you, the group, the charity organisations, school and parents will do all they can in order that the visit/trip takes place in the future.
I am so proud of all your hard work.

    Nunthorpe’s Virtual Learning Environment (VLE)

I am writing to you to give you more information on Nunthorpe’s Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), Moodle. I am sure many of you have seen your child accessing work through Moodle at home and also want to know more about what it is and how it can be used.

Moodle is primarily a Learning platform on our school website, which is an online area where students can access work, extend their learning and take part in a wide range of learning activities. All students have a unique login to Moodle which allows them to access the different courses created by their teachers. Within these courses they will find their homework and links to lesson resources and other websites. By accessing Moodle with your child you will be able to find out what he/she is doing in certain lessons and also be able to help keep track of any homework.
