Since early 2010, Nunthorpe’s Student Voice has been running a recycling initiative, backed by the world renowned Biffa. A lot of hard work was put in, to get the scheme running: Ordering bins, assembling bins, placing bins, presenting a recycling related assembly and much more.

Every Thursday a group of around 12 Student Voice volunteers stay back after school in order to empty the bins and re-line them. The scheme has been a great success, backed by many students and teachers; it is so effective that the amount of recyclable rubbish being collected is jaw dropping.

That is nearly all the rubbish recycled in a week. Imagine we wasted 52 times that every year for so long!

Please leave a comment on how you think the scheme is going and how it could be improved!

Thank you,

Temi, Student Voice.

More good work from Student Voice! Only praise has been received so far from staff and cleaners who are particularly impressed with how the scheme has helped the amount of rubbish around the school. Definately need to order more bins as the waiting list is growing. Your committment on a Thursday after school with the collection process is great. Keep up the good work.

    Well done all recyclers!

This is impressive work and I know that Mr Harris and the site management team are both impressed and very grateful.

    Thank you to all!

This is a superb initiative that clearly supports the need to reduce our carbon footprint. Well done to all involved!

    Nunthorpe’s Virtual Learning Environment (VLE)

I am writing to you to give you more information on Nunthorpe’s Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), Moodle. I am sure many of you have seen your child accessing work through Moodle at home and also want to know more about what it is and how it can be used.

Moodle is primarily a Learning platform on our school website, which is an online area where students can access work, extend their learning and take part in a wide range of learning activities. All students have a unique login to Moodle which allows them to access the different courses created by their teachers. Within these courses they will find their homework and links to lesson resources and other websites. By accessing Moodle with your child you will be able to find out what he/she is doing in certain lessons and also be able to help keep track of any homework.
