Sport

Introduction

Work within the SPORT Faculty is designed to support, contribute to and complement the aims of the school. SPORT aims to provide an enjoyable, satisfying and balanced programme – with opportunities for all students to develop physically, socially and emotionally. The Sport Faculty offers a broad and balanced curriculum to meet the needs of all individual students and encourage active involvement by performing, coaching and/or officiating. Structured and developmental schemes provide for progression, challenge and a sense of achievement.

The development of confidence, tolerance and the appreciation of one’s own and others’ strengths and weaknesses are considered to be an important part of the learning process. It is intended that the programme offered, together with an awareness of the leisure opportunities within the community, will develop these skills and attitudes conducive to involvement in an active and healthy lifestyle.

Empowering Parents – the Delights and the Perils of Teenage Social Networking!

An increasing number of parents have approached us in recent months seeking information, help and support as they become more familiar with internet based social networking sites. These sites are an everyday feature of most adolescent lives in our technology rich 21st century world – made all the more possible by handheld portable devices (web-enabled smart phones etc.) so that sitting at a computer terminal to access the sites is no longer necessary.

It is perhaps obvious to state that a significant number of our parents are concerned about the potential dangers of social networking for their sons and daughters. Whilst they can see (as can our school) the potentially great benefits for young people of such technology, they also appreciate its possible risks – especially in the areas of ‘cyber bullying’ and ‘cyber grooming’.
