Nunthorpe School Council.
The School Council at Nunthorpe has seen a dramatic change since October 2007.
Parliamentary style elections with campaigns and a week long secret ballot led to 5 school council members per house being elected. In total 41 candidates took part in the elections.
Also all of the senior prefects plus the head girl and head boy are honouree council members.
So in total there are now 37 members.
Form reps
The form rep system has changed a lot too; there are now 2 form reps per form, 24 per house, 122 in the school. Meetings are held on the assembly day of the house and are run by the school council members from that house. They are during lunchtime in Mr Bailey's room. The school council members ask the form reps their forms opinions on different topics. Past topics included, catering, VT (Vertical Tutoring) and enrichment. This information is then relayed to the rest of the school council and the relevant senior staff via School Council Meeting. These meeting have helped to change many areas of the school for the better.
School Council Meetings
Meetings are held every fortnight on a Friday after school in Room 8. There are many topics we talk about including enrichment, VT, Catering and recycling. We have talked to many people in the meeting including Mr Page, Mrs Smith, Mr Harris, Mrs Deen and two community officers from the Cleveland Police force. The school council feels that they have played an active role in improving the school this year and now far more students' voices are being heard because of the changes that have been made.
