Science is the driving force behind many of the industries in this area, it is about how our bodies work, and many of the decisions we make about how to live our lives. It is about global warming, the ozone layer and acid rain. It is about nuclear power, mobile phones and microwave ovens. It is about cancer and babies.
Our aims are
To ensure that every young person leaves us with an increased capacity to make the decisions that they face in an informed way, able to evaluate what is put in front of them, with the ability to tell fact from opinion.
To set ambitious academic targets for students and do everything possible to ensure that they are able to meet them. In this way students will be prepared to go on to the next stage of their lives with the widest possible range of choices.
To ensure that all student leave us with a wide range of skills that they are able to transfer to new situations, that will make them effective no matter where they go next.
We follow the KS3 national curriculum in years 7 and 8, and then (from September 2009) in year 9 students will students will begin study for their GCSE subjects.
At KS4 we offer GCSE Science, GCSE Additional Science, GCSE Additional Applied Science, GCSE Biology, GCSE Chemistry and GCSE Physics. These are all with the OCR exam board.
