Sixth Form History

Welcome to the History of 'The Sixth Form Experience'

In October 2006, the Schools Adjudicators’ Office gave permission for our three schools to become 11 – 19 maintained schools with effect from 2008.  This followed over nine years of active campaigning to secure school based Post 16 provision in Redcar and Cleveland LA.  Currently, all other Redcar and Cleveland secondary schools are 11 – 16; as are all Middlesbrough LA secondary schools bar two.  By the time of the adjudicator’s decision, the work of our collaborative was well underway having secured £9.8m (following successful Post 16 Capital Bid to National LSC in June 2006) for two new buildings to house our Post 16 expansion – one based on the Normanby campus; the other based at Nunthorpe.

Importantly, the collaboration, whilst led, managed and controlled by the three schools, is actively working in partnership with Redcar and Cleveland College (a general FE college in Redcar), Prior Pursglove Sixth Form College (in Guisborough) and an ever-increasing number of local work based training providers, such as Beyond, to provide Construction on an ever changing curriculum.

The Headteacher and governing bodies of the three schools are determined that the partnership will be a fluid, flexible one – responding quickly to the needs of all learners as they evolve and develop.

We endeavour to be known for excellence, choice, diversity and quality in our Post 16 collaborative provision.

The schools within the Collaborative are detailed below:

11 – 19 School Headteacher Specialism(s)
Eston Park Mr Jim Rogers Business and Enterprise
Gillbrook Mr John Anthony Technology
Nunthorpe Ms Debbie Clinton Science, Business and Enterprise

    Nunthorpe’s Virtual Learning Environment (VLE)

I am writing to you to give you more information on Nunthorpe’s Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), Moodle. I am sure many of you have seen your child accessing work through Moodle at home and also want to know more about what it is and how it can be used.

Moodle is primarily a Learning platform on our school website, which is an online area where students can access work, extend their learning and take part in a wide range of learning activities. All students have a unique login to Moodle which allows them to access the different courses created by their teachers. Within these courses they will find their homework and links to lesson resources and other websites. By accessing Moodle with your child you will be able to find out what he/she is doing in certain lessons and also be able to help keep track of any homework.
