Sixth Form Attendance and Punctuality Guidelines

Attendance Guidance

Any occasional absence should be dealt with in the following way:

  1. Any missed attendance without a phone call into the centre, must be followed up with an email or phone call home (Tutor can request Reception to make this contact).
  2. If no response within 3 days a follow up phone call or email by the tutor must happen.
  3. If still unable to get a response, refer to Head of Sixth.

Persistent Absence should be dealt with in the following way:

  1. Absence below 90%  = LETTER 1 can be requested to be sent by Reception. (Record A1 in register). Tutor monitors attendance via report card for 2 weeks.
  2. If no progress is made then LETTER 2 can be requested to be sent by Reception. (Record A2 in register). Parent should make contact with Form tutor via email or phone (if no contact made within 3 days, tutor must make contact). Tutor monitors attendance via report card for a further 2 weeks.
  3. No progress leads to a meeting with student, parents, tutor, and Head of Sixth. At the meeting an ‘Action plan’ is drawn up, with parents/students taking responsibility for reward or punishment to make it happen. Tutor to contact parents after a further 2 weeks to discuss progress.
  4. No progress would lead to LETTER 3 being requested to be sent by Reception. (Record A3 in register). It is most likely that this meeting will result in the student’s exit from the Sixth Form and Exit interview to be arranged with Assistant Head KS5, Mrs Kell.

Punctuality Guidance

  • Alison Blacklock (KK or HJ when AJB is unavailable) will stand at entrance and ask students who arrive after 8.45am to sign in the ‘Late Book’ and give a reason for being late.
  • Tutors will use the L code in registers for all students who arrive to the room after 8.45am.
  • Tutors/HJ/KK to check the Late Book each week to spot punctuality issues as they arise

Punctuality procedures

  1. If a regular pattern of lates is emerging after 2 weeks, the tutor will put the student onto a Punctuality Card for 2 weeks (Record P1 in register). Tutor asks Reception to send LETTER 1 home.
  2. If no progress is made then LETTER 2 can be requested to be sent by Reception. (Record P2 in register). Parent should make contact with tutor via email or phone (if no contact made within 3 days, tutor must make contact). Tutor monitors punctuality via report card for a further 2 weeks.
(Record P3 in register). This will lead to a meeting with Assistant Head KS5, Mrs Kell.

Empowering Parents – the Delights and the Perils of Teenage Social Networking!

An increasing number of parents have approached us in recent months seeking information, help and support as they become more familiar with internet based social networking sites. These sites are an everyday feature of most adolescent lives in our technology rich 21st century world – made all the more possible by handheld portable devices (web-enabled smart phones etc.) so that sitting at a computer terminal to access the sites is no longer necessary.

It is perhaps obvious to state that a significant number of our parents are concerned about the potential dangers of social networking for their sons and daughters. Whilst they can see (as can our school) the potentially great benefits for young people of such technology, they also appreciate its possible risks – especially in the areas of ‘cyber bullying’ and ‘cyber grooming’.
