Sixth Form Enrichment

Vision Statement For Enrichment

What is Enrichment all about?

Our Aim:

Enrichment within Nunthorpe Sixth Form is compulsory and designed to provide students with the opportunity to access new activities and courses which will develop and broaden their skills base, improve ability, knowledge and provide experience. Enrichment is designed to create students who can apply to university and employment, as a well rounded individual’s not just as academic high achievers.

KS5 Enrichment has been split into 6 cycles, over a two year period, and students are encouraged to make choices to cover a variety of different options, e.g. Physical, Community, Creative, Learning & Leisure, Work Experience and Self Generated Options.

What is in it for me?

Our prime aim is to provide students with experiences that are relevant to their career path, whether by an employment or further qualification route. Therefore tutors are encouraged to discuss the importance of Enrichment choices and supervise the suitability and attendance of options made. Summary statements will be requested by the key person responsible for logging the two hour commitment to aid tutors in the writing of references for university places or employment.

Please remember that Enrichment is designed to provide you with the opportunity to access new activities and courses which will develop and broaden your skills base, improve ability, knowledge and provide experience. Enrichment is designed to give you the opportunity to have evidence of experiences which will help you compete for university and employment places, as well rounded individuals’ not just as academic high achievers.

Student Guidance

  • Students receive their Enrichment Cycle forms and complete by the set deadline.
  • Any ‘new’ choices not from the Enrichment booklet must be accompanied by the Self-Generated Option paperwork.
  • Students need to get the form signed by the person they will be doing their enrichment with, if SGO a nominated person must agree to sign this for you and be approved by your tutor.
  • Signed forms are given to tutors who will also sign them and make a log of that student’s choice.
  • Placements will be monitored, visits and phone calls will happen on an ad hoc basis.

Sanctions

  • Students who do not bring their completed forms back by the deadline will have parents contacted (we have a legal requirement to ensure we are aware what students are doing on a Wed afternoon)
  • Students who fail to bring in their signing in sheet will have to meet with Ms Jackson at 1pm on that Wednesday and be allocated specific work to do for that afternoon.

NB

Students who do their enrichment at another time (e.g. Choir on a Monday night) are allowed to work at home on a Wed pm (providing they have produced the signed evidence for their enrichment.) If these students do choose to spend Wed pm in the Sixth Form, then it is only for quiet independent study.

Empowering Parents – the Delights and the Perils of Teenage Social Networking!

An increasing number of parents have approached us in recent months seeking information, help and support as they become more familiar with internet based social networking sites. These sites are an everyday feature of most adolescent lives in our technology rich 21st century world – made all the more possible by handheld portable devices (web-enabled smart phones etc.) so that sitting at a computer terminal to access the sites is no longer necessary.

It is perhaps obvious to state that a significant number of our parents are concerned about the potential dangers of social networking for their sons and daughters. Whilst they can see (as can our school) the potentially great benefits for young people of such technology, they also appreciate its possible risks – especially in the areas of ‘cyber bullying’ and ‘cyber grooming’.
