Specialism @ Nunthorpe - Science, Business and Enterprise

Vision of the influence of Specialism

During their time with us, our students will experience, outstanding teaching and learning practices and be given a quality choice of extra- curricular activities. These activities will extend every student regardless of whether he or she is of an academic or vocational inclination. All opportunities whether they are in lessons or extra -curricular will be tailored to have a positive impact.

For all students these activities will stretch them, fire their imaginations and compliment the knowledge they gain daily in the classroom. These opportunities will open their minds and give them a glimpse of possible future careers and help them to understand how their education can provide them with the opportunities that will shape the rest of their lives.

We envisage a school full of students who want to be with us and whose parents choose us because they realise our school offers their children the best opportunities at the start of their academic lives. They will be engaged and genuinely involved in all aspects of school life, want to go to lessons and look forward to their chosen extra -curricular activities. Students will learn and think independently and contribute towards building their own personalised learning programmes.

Our coaching and mentoring programme will enable all teaching staff to develop exemplary practices which are reflected by our student's outstanding achievements. It would also lead to a high uptake of specialist subjects in KS5. Other schools will choose to visit to observe our good practice in all aspects of school life.

The immediate and wider community will be proud to work in partnership with the school because of the enthusiasm and success achieved by the students along with the work carried out in and for the local community.

We will explore and develop opportunities to engage in partnership work with industry, business and community bodies and bring them and inspirational speakers into school whenever possible for the students to gain wider experience. This will enhance their daily learning activities and also give them a vital insight into working practices in the outside world.
