Job Descriptions and Expectations

All members of Student Voice are expected to display the high moral and hard working behaviour expected of Nunthorpe School students.

Student Voice Chairman

The Chairman of Student Voice is expected to oversee all General Meetings. This will involve leading on items on the agenda and taking questions from the floor. The Chairman will keep order and will expect members who wish to make a comment on a particular agenda item, raise their hand to gain the Chairman’s attention, this will indicate their desire to speak. Failure to raise your hand, or make the Chairman aware you wish to make a comment on two separate occasions during any meeting, will lead to you being ejected from that particular meeting.

The leadership of the Chairman will be monitored by the Director of Student Leadership. If the Chairman is believed to be acting in an unfair or unjust manner, which is not being fair and equal to all stakeholders, the Chairman in the first instance will be spoken to by the Director of Student Leadership. In the second instance a new election for Chairman will be triggered.

Student Voice Secretary

The Secretary is responsible for the taking of the minutes for all meetings. The agenda will be decided upon jointly by the Secretary, Chairman and Director of Student Leadership or via input from other stakeholders. The Secretary is expected to record a fair and true reflection of what was discussed at all meetings.

Director of Student Leadership

The Director of Student Leadership is expected to attend all Student Voice meetings, to aid and assist the Chairman and other stakeholders in the successful execution of all Student Voice activities. The Director of Student Leadership will not lead Student Voice, he will help facilitate the students to lead.

Student Voice ICT Manager

The ICT Manager will manage the day to day running of the Student Voice Moodle page, and other forms of IT Communication. The ICT Manager is expected to report any inappropriate or abusive comments immediately to the Chairman and to the Director of Student Voice, so that they will be dealt with immediately.

Student Voice Subject/House Leaders

House/Subject leaders are expected to attend all meetings as directed by either the CDL/PDL or Director of Student Leadership. Students are expected to make notes from the meeting and communicate any news obtained from the meeting via the Student Voice Newsletter.

Students in either House meetings or Subject meetings must ascertain the minimum of two specific pieces of information:

  • What is that particular Faculty/House doing to improve teaching and learning and the enjoyment of lessons?
  • What noticeable changes can be expected to be made in the coming half term in the faculty/houses to improve the student experience?

Working Group

Students who are members of the working group are expected to take an active part in projects around school or undertake tasks asked of them by members of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) or the Director of Student Leadership.

Staff Interviews Group

Part of the interview of all new staff members to Nunthorpe School will be carried out by Student Voice. Student Voice will provide three teams of students consisting of four students per team. Staff interview groups will be available to SLT when conducting interviews of perspective staff. Questions for interview will be selected from a bank of pre-agreed topics. Pre-determined ideal answers will be available to the panel and responses of the interview candidates will be assessed against these. The question and answer criteria are designed to promote fairness and consistency of the grading of all candidates.

Student Action on Behaviour

The Student Voice group will be proactive in trying to support staff in school by holding a behaviour interview panel. These interviews will discuss referrals made to the team with students who have been identified as individuals who disrupt the learning of others. The interview panel will consist of four S.V.G members working with the SIG mentor who has trained SVG in readiness for this process.
