Forty students and four staff attended the 2nd annual Student Voice residential at Stainsacre Hall, Whitby on 15/16 October, 2010.

The theme was ‘Hands On’ and was analysed as meaning ‘Actively working, getting involved.’

As soon as we arrived we headed down the woods to collect wood for the bonfire to be held later with hotdogs and of course a good sing song.

Work sessions were held to appoint members to both pastoral and subject leader roles, and responsibilities were allocated to students for the web page, newsletter, displays etc. together with planning for the year. Post profiles for both subject and house leaders were updated and a new bank of interview questions was created. Members volunteered for training sessions for the ‘Student Action on Behaviour’ scheme, the recycling rota was recreated and new ideas for future projects discussed.

All students created an imprint of their hand in clay and labelled it with qualities they had to offer as a Student Voice member. To tie in with a work session led by Mr Butcher on Teaching and Learning using mobile phones, students wrote a text message to promote Student Voice which was placed on the palm of their imprint.

Team building games, rounder’s and a walk into Whitby for free time, via the old railway track, rounded up  what was a very successful event and 44 weary people returned home to catch up on some much needed sleep!
