Vision

Valiant house sets a caring atmosphere within our school community, where every individual has the right to learn, to be safe and to be respected. We, as a pastoral team, endeavour to educate within the academic, social and spiritual dimensions. We shall strive to meet both the physical and emotional needs of our diverse community.

Tutor Time

Nunthorpe School follows the vertical tutoring system. All 12 of the tutor groups within Valiant house will follow a carefully planned programme of study during tutor time. The programme which includes community builders, challenges and quizzes, is designed to develop team work, positive working relationships and a strong community spirit between all pupils and staff within the tutor group.

Academic Monitoring

As well as following the tutor time activity programme, the time spent as a registration group is a critical component of the academic monitoring system. Students receive interim data three times a year. Shortly after receiving this information students are required to meet with their tutor (one to one, small groups) to discuss their progress and any potential behavioural issues. Students will then work with their tutor to formulate and agree upon SMART targets to work towards during the next term.

Charity

Valiant house charity is The Chernobyl Children Life Line. The affects of the Chernobyl Nuclear disaster is still felt by residents of the local area. The toxic pollution within the environment has serious health implications particularly for local children. The money raised by the charity helps bring children from Chernobyl over to the UK for a six week break. Incredibly this six week break extends the children's life expectancy by as much as 2 years.
