Year 10 & 11 NCFE Examination Information

Following on from the DfE announcements made on 12th January that scheduled assessments for vocational and technical qualifications will not take place in February or March this year, we are now able to confirm that this also now includes NCFE qualifications.

Year 11 BTEC Examination Information

The DfE has announced today that scheduled assessments for vocational and technical qualifications will not take place in February or March this year. This means that for Year 11 students scheduled to take an external assessment in February, for either Health & Social or Engineering, the examination will not take place.

As I am sure you are aware, the DfE have tasked secondary schools with completing mass testing for asymptomatic cases of Covid-19 for all staff and students within the academy. For the vast majority of students, this will be when they return following lockdown and we will update you as to when we have further information on this return.

I hope you are well and that the interesting and variable start to education this term is not causing too many frustrations. We have found students to be engaged, keen, ready and excited about learning both virtually and in the building. Can I apologise to those who were effected on Wednesday afternoon into Thursday morning for the lack of connectivity and therefore hindrance of some ‘face to face’ teaching, however all lessons resources are now in Class Charts for you to access. Hopefully the server issues we had are now rectified.

Firstly, as we are unable to hand out trial exam results in person, we have now decided to send results home via your child's school e-mail account.

Following the further government update announced by the Prime Minister last night, the following are the amended arrangements as of Wednesday 6th January until 12th February (half term). Please note that this information is subject to change in line with government guidance and any updates will be communicated via the website as usual. I will endeavour to post a weekly update via the academy website as I have been doing since the first lockdown in March.

Academy Closure – Friday 18 December 2020

You may have seen the recent announcements from Nick Gibb the Schools Standards Minister on Wednesday 8 December relating to the last day of term and schools ongoing responsibility for monitoring and reporting positive cases of Covid-19. Mr Brown and I have made the decision to close the academy on Friday 18 December 2020 to all staff and students. This will now make Thursday 17 December 2020 the last day of term.

We're asking families to donate £1 or however much they can give, to help transform the futures of children in the UK and around the world. Save the Children make sure children are kept safe, healthy and learning, and change the future for good.

We are looking forward to welcoming everyone back to the academy who is not currently self- isolating. The last couple of weeks have been challenging for all but the feedback from zoom lessons has been positively received and allows us to improve our practice as we move forward.

After discussions with Lee Brown, Executive Principal and Allan Mansfield, Chair of Trustees this morning, highlighting the lack of staff being available to attend Nunthorpe Academy tomorrow, we have had to make the decision to partly close the Academy to Year 7, 8 and 9 from Monday 9.11.20.

[22/10/2020] Advice to All Parents – Potential Single case Year 8 identified

We have been advised by Public Health England that there has been a confirmed case of COVID-19 within the academy in Year 10 and potential for a positive Covid of their sibling in Year 8, therefore we are making the decision to ask this class to self-isolate whilst awaiting for the test result for this child. If this test is negative we will contact you at the first opportunity to invite your child back into the academy.

Thank you for your continued support. Students are becoming increasingly independent in monitoring their own transfer windows and complying by washing hands and using hand sanitiser, wearing masks and respecting distance where required.

We have had a thoroughly successful return to the academy this week with 97.6% attendance, which just demonstrates how eager students and their families were for them to return to education this week.
