Lit in Colour!

“Find yourself in a book” – not easy if the books you read do not represent you.

As a multi-cultural school we are keen to ensure that our library is as diverse as possible. So when our librarian won 100 books by authors of colour featuring main characters of colour, there was a lot of excitement stirred in the library.

Apologies to our Receptionist who was questioned every day, “Have the books come yet?” The day finally arrived. Our wonderful site team arrived carrying three large boxes of books. Eager students gathered round and tore the boxes open amid gasps of “Ooh” and “Ahh” and “look at this!”

Our lovely student librarians stayed back to label some of them up straight away and they have already been loaned out!

Now all our students can find themselves in a book – one of the best ways to engage readers and develop a love of reading.

Huge thank you to Penguin Books and Runnymede Trust. Please visit Lit in Colour if you would like to learn more.
