Year 9 Mathematicians triumph in problem solving competition!

Year 9 Mathematics students took part in a ‘Problem Solving’ session at Newcastle University on 22nd June 2022.

We arrived to lunch with the ‘heads’ before being taken on a tour of the vast campus by student ambassadors.

The session saw the students pitted against two other schools to complete problem solving tasks, earn ‘chips’ for answers and the more working out shown the more chips won. Prizes were to be won – so it was game on.

Nunthorpe Academy won overall with an impressive 84 chips!!

Even the bus breakdown on the way home didn’t sour the overall mood and it was an amazing afternoon – even with the impromptu trip to Eldon Square toilets!

All the students were polite, respectful, focused and enthusiastic throughout and represented Nunthorpe Academy superbly.

A massive well done to all the students, from a very proud Maths teacher!
