We are delighted your child has a place at Nunthorpe Academy from September 2016 and we would like to take this opportunity to welcome you.
The partnership between the Academy and yourselves is of vital importance. We appreciate you want the very best for your child and we will endeavour to play a full part in the development of an effective relationship, which will directly benefit your son’s or daughter’s education.
Over the coming weeks, we will be visiting most Primary Schools to meet with students and the Year 6 teachers to gather crucial transition information.
This year there will be an extended transition held from Monday 4 July – Wednesday 20 July 2016, 8.30 am – 3.00 pm daily, where all students transferring to Nunthorpe will spend time in the Academy, following their timetable of lessons, meeting other students, their tutors and teachers and becoming familiar with the Academy.
If for any reason your child will not be attending all or some of the transition, please can you inform both your child’s Primary School and us as soon as possible.
Students will be provided with a free lunch on the first day of transition, and then will be able to either buy a school dinner or bring a packed lunch for the remaining time. Within the return pack you will find a Biometric Consent Form, which we ask you to read and sign. This will allow your child to access our new student recognition system using biometrics (fingerprint recognition) and use our cashless system for catering.
During the second week of transition, you will be invited to attend an Induction Evening on Thursday 14 July 2016 commencing at either 6.00 pm or 7.30 (times are strictly allocated within the pack available in the right hand column). This is a very important evening which we urge you to attend, as you will have the opportunity to meet with your child’s tutor to discuss any particular concerns or needs and key information will also be shared with you. Please may we ask you to make every effort to come to your allocated time slot and not to bring other children on the evening as places are restricted in the Main Hall.
Our uniform will be on display during the Induction Evening. Uniforms can be purchased from Ross’s Ltd in their shop at 45 Borough Road, Middlesbrough, TS1 4AF or through their website Ross’s Ltd. We ask that during the transition all children wear their Primary School uniform – we do not expect them to be wearing Nunthorpe Academy School uniform until September 2016.
We also operate Schoolgateway, an internet based system which allows you secure access to important ‘up to date’ information about your child, including attendance, behaviour, achievements and reports. It is vital that you use this system throughout your child’s time with us at the Academy and this will be explained to you in more detail on the Induction Evening.
There are some other forms which will need to be completed by you which will be given out on the Induction Evening. Locker Forms will be given to students during the first week of transition, which will need to be returned on the evening of Thursday 14 July 2016 or alternatively before September 2016. The cost for five year’s rental of a locker is £37.50. Students receiving free school meals receive a locker free of charge.
If your child is entitled to free school meals but doesn’t want to take them, it is still vital your entitlement is recorded, as it generates additional funding which used for the benefit of our students. This can be done by letter, in the strictest confidence, if you prefer.
The return pack must be completed and returned to the Academy by Friday, 27 May 2016. Please mark this clearly for the attention of Alison Gardiner, Academy Administration Manager 11-19.
At Nunthorpe, we endeavour to be a paperless Academy and use our online systems at all times to deliver important messages to you. For example, all letters are placed on the website and are NOT given out in a paper format – which you may be used to from your child’s Primary School.
We are also pleased to announce we can accept payments online for items such as Academy meals, trips, music tuition and much more. This is done using a secure website called ‘ParentPay’, where you will be able to pay online using your credit/debit card. We will be sending you your account activation username and password at the start of the academic year. For further details, please see the ‘ParentPay’ leaflet enclosed with the pack.
We are looking forward to your child joining us in July and September and are sure that their time at Nunthorpe will be extremely enjoyable.
